Sünopsis

Commemoration day at Nathan Phillips Square in Toronto. People exit the new city hall of Toronto and gather in front of the building; they are carrying the national flags of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania with black ribbons. The commemoration meeting includes speeches about the tragic events in Riga where people were killed in attacks by special forces of militia. Guntis Silinš, the Consul of the Republic of Latvia in Toronto, holds a speech. He recollects the sufferings caused by the Soviet regime and confesses that the desire for freedom is being still suffocated at the present day. Guntis Silinš places flowers at the foot of the flagpole. The national anthem of Latvia is being sung. The next speaker points out the solidarity between the Baltic states while fighting together against violence. Flags with black ribbons will stay up for the whole week.
