Professor Elmar Tampõld, founder of the Chair of Estonian Studies at Toronto University, gives an introductory speech. Professor Olev Träss gives an exhaustive retrospect about the historical background of founding the chair. Träss recalls the conversation held with Eric Allan Sibul more than twenty years ago when they came to the idea to establish the chair, that was followed by numeous bureaucratic procedures for which they had to use their academical and political connections. Professor Endel Tulving introduces Tõnu Parming, the future visiting professor of the chair, and his academic career.
