Latvian meeting at the time of barricades in Riga 1991 (1991)

Members of the community of expatriate Latvians in Canada have gathered in the hall in Toronto where they discuss the political situation in Latvia after the armed attack by OMON (Soviet special forces) towards demontrating civilians in central Riga on January 20, 1991. Speeches by the representatives of the Latvian community. The government of Canada is asked to react to the antidemocratic attacks in the Baltic states with a protest and express support towards the fight for independence. Speech is held by Valdis Liepins who represents the Latvian National Federation in Canada. Phone call is made to Riga where the local correspondents forward the news, there is a distressed atmosphere in the hall.
