The documentary covering Estonian maritime history was specially made for the cultural programme of the olympic regatta held in Tallinn, Estonia in 1980. The film tells about the world famous explorers Krusenstern and Bellingshausen who both come from Estonia. Otto von Ungern-Sternberg, baron of Hiiumaa island, has left his mark in maritime history as well. During the era of national awakening the first navy school was founded in Heinaste, Estonia, that created opportunities for Estonian seamen to work as captains.
