Tõnis Hoopkaup, head of the fishing collective farm, receives two significant presents for his wedding day - a new trawler and a cigarette case with the image of an anchor. Tõnis hopes to go to deep-sea fishing with his new ship and get ahead of the competing collective farms. The cigarette case reminds him of his pre-war dreams and disappointments.
