Between Two Worlds

This short poetic documentary focuses on the talented Latvian singer Dainis Skutelis, who is literally spending his life between two worlds. He is a singer in the Latvian National Opera, however, he can't stand the city life and feels the most happy in his countryside, which is more than 200 kilometers away from Riga. Therefore almost most of his time Dainis spends on the road between these two cities and even lives.

Even though the initial idea of this film was to show the contrast between those two lifestyles Dainis is living, during the shooting process Dainis suddenly announced that he has quit his job in the Latvian National Opera and from now on he will focus on renewing his country house where his daughter could grow up.

It is impossible to see the color of noise, since sound and color are phenomenons that lack a single common trait. Can the same be applied to the mutual relationships between people? Can our senses and even feelings be never translated and defined by anybody else but ourselves? Even if we feel close to each other, there is an endless distance between each of us, which can never be overcome as the color of noise can never be seen.

This story is based on two different perceptions of the world, one being audial, the other – visual. To reveal the contrast between them even more, there are quite scientific texts used in this film. Those texts have been created in a formal manner to ephasize the abstract environment and mood of the film, at the same time bringing the main storyline to a more deeper, metaphorical and symbolic level. In such a way exactly those texts, viewed in the context of the relationships between two main characters, brings out the main idea of the film.
