In this film, we look at the Setos – a European ethnic group who are wedged between two different cultures – the Orthodox East and the Catholic-Lutheran West. This is the story of a people who make do, living on the Eastern border of the European Union, between two powers and two ways of seeing the world. One way or another, they are involved in the dawning of a new day for themselves and Europe.

Meelis Muhu's documentary tells the story of the Soviet monument - the Bronze Soldier called Alyosha that was located in central Tallinn. The events around the monument culminated due to the dislocation of the monument in April 2007 and the following events called the Bronze Night when massive rioting and civil disorder took place on the streets of Tallinn.

After Estonia regained its independence in 1991, most of the Soviet monuments were taken down. The monument called the Bronze Soldier in the central Tallinn, however, remained to its place. People have called the monument "Alyosha" - the statue depicting a Red Army soldier was erected in 1947 in honour of the memory of Soviet soldiers killed in the World War II. For Estonian nationalists the monument was the symbol of Soviet occupation. In 1974, Leonid Brezhnev, the secretary-general of the Communist Party of USSR, called for the Soviet youth to construct the 3500-kilometre-long arterial railway including a city and 200 stations in Baikal-Amur district, Russia (BAM) in order to use the immense amount of mineral resources of the area. Thousands of young people, including Estonians, went to work in Siberia, while believing in Brezhnev's idea.
