Eyes of the Past (2024)

Eyes of the Past seeks to explore what it means to be free – not only from physical barriers or societal expectations, but also from past burdens and inner demons.

Josh (Rauno Polman) is about to be released from prison and to be employed as a janitor at Liberty Inn. Even as he signs the documents, images of his ex-wife flood his mind.
Emma (Luisa Lõhmus) arrives at Liberty Inn and breaks up with her boyfriend over the phone. While she is absent, Josh cleans up her room. He gets triggered by a painting but she returns and snaps him out of it. She tries to make a conversation but he leaves in a hurry.
Emma notices a stain on her bedsheet and requests for a replacement. That evening, as she finishes taking a shower, Josh comes to change the bedsheet. She flirts with him and although he is uneased, they end up having sex. As she forces him to look into her eyes and he sees the reflection of his ex-wife, he grabs her hairpin and stabs her in both eyes despite her struggles.
In the aftermath, Josh lies holding Emma’s corpse, overwhelmed by the memories of his ex-wife’s murder by his own hands.
