Journalistic reporter Ahto Nuut follows the inhabitants of Keila and Rapla in their daily routines and collect stories about their lives. The documentary is based on the song ’ Depressiivsed Eesti väikelinnad’ (Depressing Estonian Small Towns), which also describes what those small towns look like.
Why don’t they choose for a life in the city of Tallinn, where there are more opportunities for them to work? What makes them stay in their small town? Are those small towns really that depressing, or is it often overrated? Many people have prejudices about life in Estonian small towns.
The audience gets insight about how the person thinks about living in a small town, but also their search for happiness. This way, the characters illustrate what it means to live in a ‘depressing’ Estonian small town.
