Students film | Drama Duration 29:56

Plot summary

A short film about Commitment vs Freedom.

Ave (Anna Andersson), a sensitive young girl in her mid-twenties, is having her birthday celebrated in her family home in the countryside but decides to escape the situation. Her boyfriend Tobias has come to visit and her parents are making a dinner for everyone to enjoy in the evening together. However she sees a strange dream of herself being a trapped cat which leaves her feeling strange.

After waking up she also realises her own cat is missing and soon witnesses the familiar frustration between her parents. Ave finds an excuse to leave and embarks on a nightly journey through the forest while contemplating her inner fears and desires regarding freedom and commitment.

On her way a group of youngsters drinking at a bonfire in the woods represent her craving to be free, while back at home with her family Tobias is the one who represents commitment and stability. The parent's are tense but underneath everything they find also real warmth.

The synthesis of both sides come once Ave discusses the nature of her lost cat with an Old Woman at the lakeside, before returning home.

After returning home she unites again with Tobias, and awakes the next morning next to him as if everything that followed her yesterday night was just a dream.
